| Advice on Safety Switches |

Safety switches monitor the flow of electricity through a circuit and detect a problem which may pose a risk to personal safety and turn the power off within 0.03 of a second.
Always remember though, that safety switches are never a substitute for common sense.
You should regularly check your safety switch, if it does not work correctly it cannot protect you.
You should test your safety switch every three months. To test your safety switch, simply press the TEST button. This should automatically trip the switch to the ‘off’ position. Reset by pushing the switch back to ‘on’. If it doesn’t work, call for a Brisbane Electrician.
What to do when your Safety Switch trips
If a safety switch turns off your power, your wiring may be faulty or you may be using a faulty appliance.
Reset the safety switch. If it trips again disconnect all appliances and plug them in, one at a time, until you find the faulty one. If this process does not work, call for a licensed Brisbane Electrician to solve your problem.
Safety Switches in Queensland Rental Properties
From 1 March 2008 owners of domestic rental properties in Queensland must have a safety switch installed in their rental properties if one is not already fitted.
If you own a rental property and a safety switch is not installed, you may be liable for fines in excess of $1,000. If you are a tenant and you do not think that a safety switch is installed at your rental property you should contact your landlord or rental agent.
Always remember, any safety switches must be installed by a qualified Brisbane Electrician. |
